Century Builders - Our History

CENTURY'S HISTORY

On May 1, 1975, Century Builders, Inc. opened for business in a small rented office with just three determined employees. In the early years, the main focus of the business was building for Houston's booming oil and petrochemical related industries. With the blessings of God and the stable leadership of President and Founder, Darrell Eggleston, Century quickly grew in size and reputation. By the early 1980’s Century had established itself as one of the top low-rise construction firms in Texas.

Toward the end of the 1980's Houston's economy suffered the fallout from the nation's oil and gas crisis. Many firms in Houston did not survive this economic downturn, but by the grace of God and sound fiscal management, Century emerged from the oil crisis with a new dedication and direction. Our new direction and commitment to designing and building churches was rewarded in the fall of 1987, when Lakewood Church, led by the late Dr. John Osteen, selected Century Builders to construct an 8,200-seat auditorium, the largest ever built in Houston at the time. Since then, Century has become the premier church designer and church builder in America.

In March of 2006, after 31 years of steadfast leadership, Mr. Eggleston decided it was time to step down and resign his position as President and CEO, passing the baton to his sons. Beginning in 1991, Mr. Eggleston’s sons each came to work at Century, and through the years were taught and experienced every aspect of the company’s operations from job site cleanup to corporate management. With over thirty-five years of combined experience, the next generation of confident and committed Christian men have taken control of the helm.

In speaking about his retirement, Mr. Eggleston says “Now every day is like Saturday, except for Sunday when Mrs. Eggleston and I get up and go to church…” in a church designed and built by Century.
